Walter “Wally Bear” B. Meshigaud

Walter “Wally Bear” B. Meshigaud, 76 of Hannahville, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2019 at U.P. Health Systems in Marquette.

Wally was born in Hannahville on November 9, 1942, son of Harry and Evelyn (Curtis) Meshigaud. He was a life-long resident of Hannahville and graduated from Bark River Harris High School.

He worked security at the casino until his health prevented him from working any longer. He also worked in the lumber industry.

Wally was firekeeper for the Hannahville Potawatomi Indian tribe since the 1970’s.

Among survivors are his brother Frank and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and several siblings.

Visitation will be held Wednesday June 19, 2019 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Hannahville Community Center. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 20th at 10 a.m. with burial to follow in Hannahville Cemetery.

  1. So sorry for the Community’s loss. Wally Bear was a kind funny guy. He taught me many things about the culture. The Fire keeper will be missed by all who’s lives he touched.
