Walter E. “Wally” Haas, 72, Garden, MI, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 20, 2016 at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique.
He was born on March 23, 1944 in Escanaba, son to Norman Strasler and Dorothy Haas.
On June 16, 1975, Wally married Karen Seth in Waukegan, IL.
Wally served in the Army from August 8, 1961 until his honorable discharge on August 18, 1964.
Wally was a truck driver for propane until his retirement.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren.
Among the survivors include his wife, Karen of Garden; two children, Mary (Craig) Barnhart of Escanaba and Sheri Miller of Florida; two grandchildren, Colin and Morgan Barnhart; four sisters, Bernadette “Bernie” Strahl of Nadeau, Nora Martin of Nadeau, Mildred (Gary) Hahn of Bark River and Sally (James) Lautner of Wilson; two brothers, Harold (Jenny) Strasler of Escanaba and Norman (Darlene) Strasler of Carney; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Linda Kilcoyne and Teresa Greyheck; and brother, Joseph Gollakner.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 23rd in St. John the Baptist Church hall. A meal will follow.
