Vernon L. Thunder Sr. 59, of Hannahville and Escanaba, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2020 at Christian Park Healthcare Center in Escanaba.

He was born in Escanaba on November 29, 1960, son of Perry and Cecilia (McCullough) Thunder Sr. He was a life-long resident of Hannahville and Escanaba. He attended Hannahville school.

Vernon worked independently in the woods cutting cedar and brush. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed reading magazines, books and playing the Clearing House sweepstakes. Overall, he enjoyed keeping busy, always helping others if need be.

Among survivors are his children, Traci Lynn Uskilith, Shianne Lillie Uskilith and Vernon Thunder Jr.; grandchildren, Nigani Wabanimkee, Vaida Rae Lyn Uskilith-Karaja, Terrence Ali Uskilith-Karaja, Ondraya Lachey Uskilith-Karaja, Mason Thunder, Larissa Thunder, Brittany Thunder and Jurney Thunder; siblings, Linda Mary (Ken) Thunder-Chroge and Eugene Wesley (Kathy) Thunder Sr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Franklin Uskilith and Bruce Wayne Thunder; and siblings, Wayne Lee Thunder, Theresa Marie Thunder, Perry Leslie Thunder, Jr.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at the Hannahville Community Center. The service will continue on Thursday at 10 a.m. with burial to follow in Hannahville Cemetery.

  1. I had the pleasure of having Vernon as a passenger numerous times on the DATA bus, he was always polite, and a pleasure to have along for the ride. You will be missed! Rest in Peace, Vernon!

  2. I am going to miss you Larry, I knew you as Larry. I spent some time praying with you in the sweat Lodge when Three Fires Half Way House was still there.
