Vernon H. Porath, 77, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
Vernon was born in Escanaba on July 20, 1940, son of Robert and Marie (Witte) Porath. He was a life- long resident of the Hyde area and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1959.
He worked for Harnischfeger until 1982 then went to work for Lakeside Machine in Gladstone until his retirement. He also did various jobs working in the woods and farming.
Vernon loved to play cribbage and played in many tournaments. His favorite pastime was going to camp and hunting.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Among survivors are his siblings, Howard (Dolly) Porath of New Berlin, WI, Allen (Nancy) Porath of Bark River, Roberta (Donald) Koehler of Green Bay, WI, and Joyce Porath of Escanaba; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Robert and Marie; he was preceded in death by his brother, Harvey.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 16th from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. The funeral service celebrating the life of Vernon will follow at 4 p.m. with Pastor Ronald Zindler officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Porath family to assist with funeral expenses.
Burial will be in West Ford River Cemetery.
