Timothy Christian Runkel, 75, 5277 S. Kurth 17.75 Drive, Escanaba, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Marquette General Hospital.

He was born on July 26, 1939 in Escanaba, son to Earl and Alice (Sabourin) Runkel. He graduated from Escanaba High School in 1958 and was a lifelong resident of Escanaba.

On August 28, 1964, Tim married Patricia J. Koish at St. Anne’s Church.

He was in the Michigan National Guard for four years.

Tim worked for Harnischfeger from 1959 until 1983 and then was an Escanaba Area School bus driver from 1985 until his retirement in 2000.

Tim was an outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and going to camp. He was an avid Packer and NASCAR fan, especially Jeff Gordon.

For many years, Tim was a member of the Peninsula Stock Car Association where he drove and served on the board. He was a member of St. Anne’s Parish, active member of the Wells Lions Club, life member of Escanaba Elks Lodge 354. He was a founding member of the P&H Rod and Gun Club (Great Lakes Sports & Rec. Club) and he brought little league baseball and Jr. Hockey to the Soo Hill area in the 1970’s.

Among survivors include his son, Anthony “A.J.” (Fay) Runkel of Gladstone; and two grandchildren, Abby and Lucas Runkel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Patricia.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 17th from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Elks Lodge memorial service will be a 4 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Runkel family.
