Steven M. Sagataw, 54, W195 Willow Rd, Wilson, passed away on Thursday morning, October 15, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Hospital.
He was born on April 6, 1961 in Escanaba, son to Omar and Genevieve (Keshick) Sagataw. Steven was a lifelong Hannahville resident and graduated from Bark River Harris High School in 1979. He attended Bay de Noc Community College and Northern Michigan University.
Steven was employed as a counselor for Great Lakes Recovery and for Hannahville. He also worked as a HR assistant for the tribal government and was a member and past chairperson of the National Native American Human Resources Association and the Diocesan Pastoral Council in Marquette. Steven was also a chef assistant at many local restaurants.
He enjoyed politics and cooking.
He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Assembly 507 Escanaba 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Bark River Council 13863 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, and was a member of the Hannahville School Board and Health Board.
Among survivors include his sisters, Maxine (Dennis) Engel of Dagget, Connee Sagataw of Wilson, Sara (Devin) Wandahsega of Wilson; half-sister, Cecile Tony of Ohio; brothers, Gregory “Buck” Sagataw and Dale “Joe” (Jackie) Sagataw, Daniel Sagataw, Robert (Patti) Sagataw and Tyrone Sagataw all of Hannahville, Patrick (Robin) of Lansing and Terrance (Ramona) of Chebasnse, IL.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be on Monday, October 19th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. The Rosary will be said by the Knights of Columbus at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, October 20, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church with Rev. Darryl Pepin officiating. A meal will follow at the Hannahville Community Center.
Burial will be in Bark River Cemetery.
