Stanley “Butch” Kwarciany Jr., 70, Escanaba, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Salem, Oregon, on November 3, 1944, the son of Stanley M. and Mitzi (Garrison) Kwarciany Sr.
Butch graduated from Bark River in 1963.
He served in the United States Navy from August 14, 1962 until his honorable discharge on November 2, 1966. Butch was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Butch worked as a sheriff deputy in LaCrosse, WI, and retired from MEAD Paper in 2000.
Butch was a member of U.P. Whitetails Association, Knights of Columbus, and served as an usher at St. Anne’s Catholic Church.
He loved to work on cars, small engines, woodwork and tinker on various other projects. He also enjoyed spending time at camp and in the garage, hunting, and watching football and NASCAR.
Butch was a foster parent for 22 years.
He was a man of faith and service, always lending a helping hand or word of advice. His presence will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters, Jean Gaumer of Ohio, Lora (Jim Kossow) Johnson of Gladstone, Amy (David) Guenette Jr of Escanaba, Kristy (Mike) Catalano of Toledo, OH, and Jessica Kwarciany and Jennifer Kwarciany both of Escanaba; sons, Mike Kwarciany of Green Bay, Dan (Heather) Gaumer of Esendido, CA, and Branden (Zach Wiles) Tomac, Edward Kwarciany, and Bryan Kwarciany all of Escanaba; sister, Rhonda (Steve) Beneke of Virginia; brothers, Bill (Diana) Kwarciany of Escanaba, Russell (Don Gieson) Kwarciany of Vulcan, and Richard (Lori) Kwarciany of Escanaba; sister-in-law, Janet Kwarciany of Escanaba; 16 grandchildren, Dylan, Kayla, Jessy, Cody, Williejames, Shareena, Johnathan, Georgie, Margaret, Dominic, Evelyn, Julia, Theodore, Harley, John, and Christian; and five great grandchildren, Callie, Dominick, Logan, Zaine, and Arianna.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Kwarciany; and great grandchildren, Williejames Jr., and Michael Profit.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Delta County Veterans Council will hold military rites at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
