Shirley A. (Billings) Wendrick, 89 of Bark River, MI, peacefully passed away on Tuesday afternoon, July 21, 2020 at Lakeview Assisted Living with her family at her side.

She was born on August 17, 1930 in Schaffer, MI, daughter of Homer and Doris (Martin) Billings. Shirley was raised in the Eustis, Schaffer, and the Bark River areas.

On April 11, 1953, Shirley was united in marriage to Edward J. Wendrick at the Sacred Heart Church in Schaffer, MI. He preceded her in death on April 16, 2006.

Shirley received her clerical certificate from Bay de Noc Community College. She worked at the Daily Press, Upcap Services and the Area Agency on Aging. She was a receptionist until her retirement on August 17, 1992 on her “62nd” birthday.

She enjoyed dancing, especially polka dancing and polka music. Shirley loved walking with her dog Joey, traveling, and dancing with special friend, Ralph Bugay, who is deceased. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bark River, MI and after Sunday Mass she would have brunch with friends. In addition, Shirley was a member of the Bark River Senior Center, which she attended every Wednesday. She loved Bingo, especially when she won!

Survivors include her daughters, Darlene (Richard) Smith of Powers, MI, Vivian (Carl) Linke of Macomb, MI, Laurie (Jerry) Bybee of Woodruff, WI; sons, Calvin (Marcie) Wendrick of Henrico, VA, Stephen (Carolyn) Wendrick of Bradenton, FL, Alan (Margaret) Wendrick of Marquette, MI, and John (Kate) Wendrick of Neenah, WI; 20 grandchildren; Dana (Jonah) Behrend, Danielle (Robert) Bemmels both of Suamico, WI, Corey (Cabell) Wendrick of Glen Allen, VA, Casey (Kendell) Wendrick of Greenville, WI, Nathan (Leanne) Wendrick of Orlando, FL, Nicholas Wendrick of Bradenton, FL, Eric Linke of Port Huron, MI, Andrew Linke of Macomb, MI, Judson and Maxwell Bybee of  Woodruff, WI, Miranda Wendrick of East Lansing, MI and Savannah, Shanelle, Etta, Rosie Wendrick of Neenah, WI;  13 great grandchildren; sister in law, Doris Billings of Escanaba, MI and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Edward J. Wendrick; infant daughter, Ellen A. Wendrick; grandson, Jonathan Wendrick; granddaughter, Cora and brother Neil J. Billings.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25th at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River from 9:00 a.m. est. to 10:30 a.m. est.  To comply with current regulations, masks are required in the funeral home and the church. Please enter the funeral home using the front (south) door and exit using parking lot (east) door. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church at 11:00 a.m. est with Rev. Darryl Pepin officiating.

Burial will take place at the Bark River Twp. Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for Masses or OSF St. Francis Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

The family would like to give special thanks to Lakeview Assisted Living staff for their cares and concerns. A special thank you to Rachael, Carrie, Heather, Lisa, Deacon Mike and all of the OSF Hospice staff. Father Darryl Pepin for his prayers and visits and Pastor Chris.

I enjoyed having her as a patient in our dental practice at Great Northern Dental(Dr. Bradley, from years ago); I looked forward to seeing her when I saw her name on my schedule. She was such a kind soul and we always had such a nice visit. She always asked about my family, which was just like her, so thoughtful.
