Sharon “Sherry” J. Dunathan

Sharon J. “Sherry” Dunathan, 74, of Escanaba, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at U.P. Health System, Marquette.

She was born on May 6, 1945 in Baraga, daughter of Thomas and Dorothy (Rock) Ross.  Sherry graduated from Baraga High School, class of 1963.  In 1970, she relocated to Escanaba.

On May 26, 1985, Sherry married Arni Dunathan in Escanaba.

She was employed with the Escanaba High School as a kitchen aide for many years.

Sherry loved being active in the outdoors.  She also enjoyed bowling, golfing and going to the casino.  She was an avid Detroit sports fan.

Sherry was a member of St. Anne’s Church and the Escanaba Elks Auxiliary.

Among survivors include her husband, Arni of Escanaba; children, Kelly (Dwayne) Hammersmith of Gladstone, Jody Horwitz and Mark Hill of Escanaba; stepchildren, Clint (Marcia) Dunathan of Escanaba and Dari (Mike) Cranford of Columbia, MO; grandchildren, Justin (Lindsey), Jessie (Tyler), Hunter, Kasey (Jared), Kyle (Luke), Peyton, Abby, Sophie, Tony, Cara (Travis), Bryce, Maddie, Morgan (Michael), Riley and Tanner; five great grandchildren; siblings, Thomas (Verna) Ross of Alston, Robert Ross of Baraga and Steve (Terry) Ross of L’Anse; several nieces and nephews; and her parrot, Bill.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Mickey Ross.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 3 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating.  A meal will follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Anne’s Church or the Escanaba Elks Auxiliary.
