Russell J. Wendrick

Russell J. “Russ” Wendrick, Jr. 63, of Gladstone, passed with his family by his side, walked into his eternal home on Sunday, August 7, 2016 after a lengthy battle with MS at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette.

Russ was born on December 8, 1952 to Russell J. Wendrick Sr., Escanaba and Marion (Kasbohm) Wendrick of Escanaba. He graduated from Escanaba High School in 1971.

After high school he went on to join the U.S. Navy where he served our country during Vietnam. Russ had earned a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Meritorious Unit Citation. He continued to serve his country in the Michigan National Guard.

Russ married his high school sweetheart Cheryl Ann Roberts on June 23, 1973. They went on to have two children, Christopher and Amanda who were his pride and joy.

Russ went on to have a career at the UPPCO Power Plant. He also served as a volunteer fireman for the Escanaba Twp. Fire Department.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing taxidermy work.

During Russ’s five year stay at the DJ Jacobetti Home, he served on the resident council and recently became president. Russ was the voice and advocate for the residents and was loved by all and will sadly be missed.

Russ is survived by his wife, Cheryl of Gladstone; children, Christopher (Pamela) of Kingsford and Amanda of Gladstone; grandchildren, Skylar “S”, Jordan, Riley, and Payton Wendrick of Kingsford, and McKenna Wendrick of Gladstone; father, Russell J. Wendrick, Sr. of Escanaba; mother, Marion Wendrick of Escanaba; brothers, Pat (Debby) of Escanaba, Jeff of Escanaba, John (Jeannie) of Escanaba, Anthony (Lynne) of Little Suamico, WI and Gerald “Jerry” (Julie) of Las Vegas, NV; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and in laws.

There will be private services for the family at a later date.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Wendrick family.
