Rose Marie Gill, 77, N14507 Hannahville B-1 Rd, Wilson, passed away at her home early Saturday morning, April 25, 2015 surrounded by her family after battling Parkinson’s disease.
She was born on July 10, 1927 in Escanaba, daughter of Levi and Helen (Petoskey) Sagataw. Rose graduated from Bark River-Harris School in 1956.
In 1958, Rose married Clarence Gill in Spaulding and they raised their family in Neenah, WI. She worked as a licenses practical nurse at Vallhowen Nursing Home for 20+ years and then moved back to Hannahville in 1993.
Rose worked until her retirement as the Hannahville Indian Community Elderly Outreach worker and served many years on various tribal boards, Michigan Commission on services to the Aging and was a member of the Hannahville American Legion Auxiliary Post 16. She enjoyed volunteering for her community, gardening, traveling, attending country music concerts and spending time with her family and friends.
Rose is survived by her husband, Clarence of Hannahville; daughter, Shannon (Robin) of Hannahville; two sons, Keith (David) of Escanaba and Kevin of Hannahville; five grandchildren, Tatiana, Cassie, Cody, Zach and Alyssa; great granddaughter, Tegan; sister, Betty (Dave) Williams of Hannahville; brothers, Phillip (Corina) Sagataw of Boise, Idaho, Levi (Karen) Sagataw and Donald (Paula) Sagataw of Hannahville; Vaughn Sagataw of Sault Ste. Marie; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Harvey, Kenneth, Francis, Lawrence, Joseph Sagataw, Irene Mancilla, Florence Silver, and Anita Sagataw; and Uncle Alvin Meshigaud.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 28th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. American Legion Post Auxiliary services will be held at 7 p.m. and Parish Prayers will follow at 8 p.m. Visitation will also take place on Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Darryl Pepin officiating.
A meal will follow in the Hannahville Community Center.
A committal service will take place for her and her brother, Joe at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in the Bark River Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the aides and nurses from OSF Hospice for the care for the past few months of her life.
