Ronald “Ron” M. Hughes

Resided in Escanaba, Michigan
Died October 10th, 2019

Ronald “Ron” M. Hughes, 60, of Escanaba, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 10, 2019 while working in Grand Rapids, MI.

Ron was born at St. Francis Hospital on April 18, 1959.  He was the 7th of ten children and grew up in the small town of Gladstone, MI where he spent many hours helping on the family farm.  He graduated from Gladstone High School and shortly after he started his 41-year long career as a lineman.  Ron took immense pride in his line of work but his heart was truly tied to his family.

He loved watching his grandchildren grow and sharing with anyone who would listen the stories of their accomplishments.  He was a dedicated spouse, father and grandfather.  During Ron’s life, he spent most of his time either on the farm he and his wife owned, working on projects.  He was always working on something rain or shine but always found ways to involve his loved ones.  He enjoyed spending time at hunting camp or camping with his wife, friends and horses.  He may have been a man of few words but he left us all with a lasting impression of goodness, integrity and love.

Cherishing his memory and love are his wife of 20 years, Corrilyn (Burroughs) Hughes; children, Adam (Sherry) Hughes, Doug Hughes, Amanda (Tony) Miron, Kaitlyn Peterson and Kacie Peterson and 12 grandchildren.  He is also survived by his mother, Ileen Hughes; siblings, Sr. Rosalie Hughes SPC, Barb Hughes, Ray (Barb) Hughes, Joe Hughes (Amy Braun), Ileen (Greg) Meyers, Connie (Allen “Zack”) Smith, Larry (Karen) Hughes and Mary Hughes; as well as many special nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry “Hank” C. Hughes in November of 2018; and brother, Patrick Henry Hughes in January of 2019.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 17th from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba.  The Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Friday, October 18th at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock.  A meal will follow in the church hall.

Burial will be in Escanaba Twp. Cemetery.

  28. As Ronald Matthew’s oldest sister, I respectfully extend deepest heartfelt sympathy to the entire Hughes family line, to Ron’s friends, classmates, neighbors & the fabulous Brotherhood of Linemen with whom Ron worked, mentored & taught over 40 yrs.! I have always been so proud of who Ron was & especially touched by his gentle spirit, good humor, hard work & availability, the tender love he held for each in his growing family, his care & love of animals & nature, Ron’s love of God & witness of faith, his deep regard & gratitude for his parents, Hank & Ileen Hughes, his largeness of heart & generosity to always open he & his wife Cory’s home to so many young people boarding horses on the farm, mentoring them & teaching them respect, compassion & responsibility. I am touched & grateful to Ron for his contemplative way of living & loving simply! He not only literally built bridges on their property, he was a bridge builder in what he said & did, in his personhood; a non-violent & peaceful man of God. Carrying his crosses with grace & dignity, after Christ, Ron won the Eternal Crown of Glory!
Without knowing, Ron reached his sanctity, mission complete, & lives a New Life now in Christ, more present to us than ever before in person, even though we loved having him in person! Those who met Ron liked him, those who knew Ron loved him💕
Ron, may you rest in Eternal Bliss with the God Who created you, gifted us with a short while & suddenly called you Home to Himself. Enjoy special communion with Dad, brother Pat, & the Communion of Saints🕊 I love you & will miss you! Pray for us, Dear Brother, Ron🙏
