Ronald J. “Black Cloud” Schram, 74, Escanaba, passed away on Monday evening, June 13, 2016 at U.P. Health System – Marquette.

He was born on May 12, 1942 in Escanaba, son of Peter P. and Edith (LeGault) Schram. Ron graduated from Gladstone High School.

Ron was a member of the 107th Engineering Battalion starting on March 3, 1964, serving during the Detroit Riots until his honorable discharge from the Army National Guard of Michigan on March 2, 1970.

On August 29, 1964, Ron married Barbara J. Valiquette at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2000. Ron married Mary L. Courtney on August 2, 2003 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bark River.

Ron was employed with Mead Paper Company for 28 years as a craft mill foreman. He later worked maintenance for the Island Resort and Casino for 11 years.

Ron enjoyed woodworking, making wishing wells, camping, commercial fishing, hunting, bowling, and especially spending time with his family. He also loved having his Christmas train set up for the holidays.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bark River, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and U.P. Whitetails.

Among survivors include his wife, Mary of Escanaba; children, Royal (Tina) Schram of Bark River, Cynthia (Wally) Barr of Munising, Mark (Diane) Schram of Spalding, Todd (Krista) Schram of Escanaba, Mindy (Jamie) Johnson of Escanaba and Bonnie (Matt) Larson of Bark River; step daughter, Tara (Shari) Courntey of Green Bay; nine grandchildren; brother, David (Mary) Schram of Gladstone; sister, Mary (Bob) Berger of Rhinelander, WI; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 16th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. The Bark River Rheaume-Knauf American Legion Post 438 will have military rites at 5 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will have the rosary at 6:45 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow in Friday, June 17th at 12 noon at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bark River with Rev. Darryl Pepin officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.

Burial will take place in Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Schram family.
