Roberta “Joy” Moran, 83, of Escanaba, passed away on Sunday evening, January 1, 2017 at Bishop Noa Home.

Joy was born on May 2, 1933 in Escanaba, daughter of Mark and Lucille (Solley) Valind. She graduated from St. Joseph High School.

On June 23, 1951, Joy married Robert “Bob” J. Moran at St. Joseph Church in Escanaba.

Over the years, Joy had been employed with NuWay Cleaners, was a bookkeeper at First National Bank and retired from Gasman News Agency.

Joy was an active member of St. Anne’s Church.
She was a valued member of the adult choir, a cantor for many years, a Eucharist Minister, CCD teacher, and was in charge of the linens and seasonal flowers for the altar. She was also involved in the Bay de Noc Choral Society and Players de Noc.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing and cooking.

Among survivors include her husband, Bob of Escanaba; daughters, Sally (Larry) Johnson of Wilson, Donna Whitehead of Two Rivers, WI, Jean (Tom) Peters of Two Rivers, WI and Judith (Gordon) Wery of Savannah, GA; 10 grandchildren, Larry Johnson Jr., Lisa Moran, Erica Ritchie, Eric Moran, Carmen Whitehead, Maria Whitehead, Preston Preston, Gina Kalista, Gordon Wery and Monica Wery and 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Kathlyn Minor and Leta (Pat) Cousineau; brothers, Charles (Susan) Valind and Thomas (Gerry) Valind; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son in law, William Whitehead; brothers, Robert “Pat” Valind and grandson, Keith Preston.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 6th from 3 to 5 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.

A memorial in Joy’s name may be directed to St. Anne’s Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Moran family.
