Robert L. Bowden, 78, of Escanaba, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 at U.P. Health Systems in Marquette.
Bob was born in Escanaba on June 12, 1939, son of Lester and Phyllis (DeGrand) Bowden. He was raised in Escanaba and worked at Harnischfeger until retirement in 1982. He then worked for The Island Resort and Casino as a driver for the shuttle bus, Wilbert Burial Vault and as the sexton for Holy Cross Cemetery.
On September 24, 1960, he married Mary Carroll at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba.
He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife, Mary, Bob is survived by his children, Theresa (Tom) Pietsch of Gladstone, Tom (Dawn) Bowden of Escanaba, Terry (Chris) DeGrave of Wilson and Ann (Mark) Rudd of Livonia, MI; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; siblings, Joan Smart, Fred (MaryLee) Bowden, Jerome (Pat) Bowden and Dick Bowden, all of Escanaba; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Phyllis.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Expressions of sympathy may be mailed to Tom Bowden, 1821 US 2 & 41 N. Lincoln Road, Escanaba, MI. 49829.
Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery in Escanaba.
