Robert “Bob” L. Stone

Robert L. “Bob” Stone, 82, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility.

He was born in Iron Mountain on November 11, 1932, the son of William and Hazel (Buckley) Stone.

Bob was raised in the Iron Mountain/Norway area and has resided in Rapid River for the past 23 years.

On April 14, 1952, Bob married the former Eileen Mae “Midge” Corbiel.

He retired from Escanaba Steam Laundry in 1990.

Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus achieving the 4th Degree.

Bob enjoyed to gunsmith, reload ammunition, and woodwork. He also raised beagles. Bob loved to cheer on the Green Bay Packers and watch stock car racing.

He is survived by his children, Robert (Cathy) Stone of Rapid River, Lynn (Matt) Sattem of Bark River, Randy (Marcia Holmes) of Rapid River; grandchildren, Greg Stone, Sally Chapman, Michael Sattem, Rusty Stone, Eric Ohlen, Michelle Karaga, Bobby Stone, Kyle Stone; six great grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn “Dee Dee” LeDuc of Rapid River, Patricia (James) Gallagher of Escanaba, Mary (Al Blahnik) Roberts of Escanaba; brothers, Fran (Judie) Roberts of Rapid River, James Wahl of Ann Arbor, MI, Ray (Kathy) Juetten of Pelkie; step sister, Mary Helen Strong of Wawatosa, WI; step brother, Ray Roberts of Glendale, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen “Midge” in 2007; mother, Hazel, in 1986; and grandson, Matthew Sattem Jr. in 2013.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 8, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Escanaba Knights of Columbus will say the Rosary at 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Rapid River. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

Burial will take place on Tuesday, June 9, in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the ultra sound fund at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Stone family.

  3. Really sorry to hear about the passing of Uncle Bob glad I visited with him last time I was up in the UP. Got to be so hard to lose them I can’t imagine . Praying they are both reunited in a world without sickness and only joy and love for each other . Thinking of you all on such a difficult day .

  4. Bob was a great guy when I knew him in the 1970’s. Sorry to hear of his passing. I worked for him at the Steam Laundry all those years ago. I remember how kind he was and how friendly he was. He was my favorite boss of all that I’ve worked for through the years. May you find comfort in the good memories of him that you must have.
