Richard L. “Sonny” Webber, 87 of Spalding, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2019 surrounded by his family at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
Sonny was born on February 14, 1932, son of Joseph and Leona (Kregelka) Webber. He was raised in Carney and at a young age he learned about responsibility when his dad was injured in a car accident and had to take over to support the family.
He joined the Army in 1952 and was honorably discharged from the Artillery Division at the Rank of Sargeant in 1954.
He worked in Evanston, Il, as a landscaper until he was called home to take over his grandmother’s farm when his uncle became ill. He was an integral contributor for well over 20 years on the Jorasz Farm working close with his grandsons. As well as farming he worked in the forestry industry.
Sonny had a great sense of humor and everyone that met him had a great respect for him and grew to love him. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and competing in pool league.
He was a member of the American Legion in Carney, MI.
Among survivors are his children, Jim, Daryl, Joyce (Michael) Webber, Faye Christenson-Kelly, and Carol (Bob) Amundsen; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Ernest (Sharon), Leonard (Alice), Donald (Rosie), and Dwayne; sister, Karen (Allan) Yagodzinski; son in law, John Jorasz; and long-time companion, Arlene Scott.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Jorasz; granddaughter, Dani Christenson; brothers, Benny and Lawrence; and sister Hazel.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 22nd from 1 – 5 p.m. (Central Time) at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. Military honors will be held at 4 p.m. (Central Time). Parish prayers will be said at 5 p.m. (Central Time). The Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Monday, December 23rd at 11 a.m. (Central Time) at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church with Rev. Darryl Pepin officiating.
Burial will be in Bark River Twp. Cemetery spring 2020.
