Richard J. Derusha, 82, of Escanaba, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Sunny View Adult Foster Care in Gladstone.
Richard, son of Jerry and Margaret (LaCasse) Derusha was born on January 9, 1934 in Hyde. He attended Soo Hill School and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1952. He then went on to attend Bay College and Northern Michigan University earning a teaching degree in secondary education.
He was employed at the Upper Peninsula State Bank as a clerk and Horizon Club Director. He was also responsible for decorating the bank for every holiday. It was one his favorite parts of his job because it made customers and co-workers happy to see a home and family atmosphere in his decorating. Richard retired in 1998 after twenty-seven years of service.
Richard was a member of St. Anne’s Church, the Serra Club and Players de Noc for many years where he did publicity and posters for radio and newspaper advertising and was responsible for the season ticket sales. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, planting flowers, trips to the casino, watching the Green Bay Packers, lunches at the Family Inn with friends, and spending time relaxing at his home that he built on the Escanaba River with his beloved dog, Chi Chi.
Among survivors include his sister, Shirley Mae (Roy) Dahl; nephew, Terry (Karen); great nephews and niece, Brad (Nicole), Tyler, and Tiffany Dahl; and great great nephews, Dominic, Cooper and Chase Dahl.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 17th from 3 – 5:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at 5:30 at the funeral home with Deacon Terry Saunders officiating.
Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
