Phyllis “Toots” (Lancour) DeRouin, 93, Escanaba, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015 at Bishop Noa Home.
She was born on November 25, 1921 in Osier, MI, daughter to William and Eva (Lalonde) Lancour.
Phyllis was married to Victor DeRouin for 58 years. He preceded her in death.
Phyllis was a devoted mother who always put her children ahead of herself. She lost three children at birth and raised seven. She fostered two children for eight years and gave them a stable and loving home. Her love of and faith in God was her reason for living and everyone who knew her benefitted from that.
She loved to travel when she was able and making holiday decorations for others. Phyllis volunteered for St. Vincent de Paul for 35 years and committed herself to visiting the sick and shut-ins. Her baked goods were legendary to her family and friends.
Phyllis was a member of St. Thomas Church, St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Right to Life of Michigan.
Among the survivors include her sons, Terry (Mary) DeRouin, Darrell (Tom Knoll) DeRouin and Tim (Wendy) DeRouin; daughters, Beth (Wayne) Peterson, Vickie (Gary) Gustafson, Renee Posenke and Paula (Marc) Marenger; 12 grandchildren, James (Alaina) DeRouin, Daniel (Angie) DeRouin, Darrell DeRouin Jr., Andrew DeRouin, Michelle DeRouin, Travis (Rachel) Gustafson, Gary Gustafson Jr., James Posenke, Marsha Posenke, Shaun (Crystal) Marenger, Danielle (Jason) Kallio, and Dustin Marenger; 17 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; sisters, Lurline Pepin, Theresa Deiter, Wanda Orvia and Rita Aho; and brothers, Wayne and Irving “Thomas” Lancour.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Gustafson; brothers, William, Ronald, Norman, Dale, Keith, and Floyd Lancour; and sisters, Yvonne Montgomery, Judy Eagle and Leola Wiltzius.
Private visitation will be held at the convenience of the family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, May 21th at 3 p.m. at St. Thomas Church with Rev. Rick Courier officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.
