Myron Thomas Phillips, 89, of Bark River, Michigan went to be with his Lord on December 20, 2016.

Myron was born in Daggett, Michigan on October 20, 1927, the oldest child of Thomas and Bernice Phillips. He attended Stephenson High School and was drafted by the U.S. Army in September 1950. He rose to the rank of sergeant and served in the Korean War.

On January 6, 1951 he married the former Eleanore Johnson in Sparta, Wisconsin. He worked for the Stephenson Marketing Association in Bark River and then joined Cable Constructors of Iron Mountain, where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of American Legion Post 438 for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Bark River United Methodist Church.

Myron enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He spent hours in the summer taking care of his lawn and feeding the birds. He loved all sports, especially Green Bay Packers football. He was an excellent bowler and looked forward to his annual trips to the “Big House” to see a University of Michigan football game. He also took great enjoyment in attending his grandchildren’s athletic events.

Myron is survived by his children, Judy (David) Peterson of Cadillac, Michigan, Ronald (Mary) Phillips of Bark River, Michigan, Deb Cannon of Troy, New York, and Daniel (Elena) Phillips of Waukesha, Wisconsin; daughters-in-law, Deborah Phillips of Sandusky, Ohio, and Sherri Phillips of Deerwood, Minnesota; grandchildren, William and Thomas Peterson, Patrick (Melissa), Devin and Kathleen Phillips, Jessica (Evan) Gallup and Jeremy Phillips, Matthew and Melissa Cannon, Mallory, Josh and Samantha Phillips, and Sara Bruder, James, Jonathan and Amy Jo Phillips; great-grandchildren, Eleanore, Elijah and Adalyn Gallup, and Jackson and Brooklyn Phillips; sisters, Rosalie Wickman, Janet Rodman, and Terry Vukelich; brothers, Richard (Kathy) Phillips, Jerry (Diane) Phillips, and Thomas (Diane) Phillips.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanore; sons, Gary Thomas Phillips and Brian James Phillips; and brothers-in-law Bud Wickman, Matt Rodman, and Rick Vukelich.

Visitation will be on Monday, December 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River with Bark River Legion having military rites to take place at 3 p.m.

The funeral service celebrating the life of Myron will be at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Christine Bergquist. A meal will follow at the Bark River Methodist Church.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Phillips family.
