Merideth “Merri” A. Derouin

Merideth A. “Merri” Derouin, 67, of Bark River, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Christian Park Village.

She was born on November 20, 1951 in Milwaukee, WI, daughter to George and Grace (Carlson) Gustafson.  When Merri was in elementary school, her family moved to Carney.  She graduated from Carney High School.

On September 11, 1971, Merri married Dale L. Derouin in Carney.

Merri worked for Kmart for several years while raising her four children.  She also was a manager at Willow Creek Cinema until she had to retire for health issues.

She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed camping, shopping, and going to the casino.  Merri also loved doing crafts.

Merri was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bark River.

Among survivors include her husband, Dale of Bark River; children, Carrie (Matt) Gholston, Scott (Holly) Derouin, Cory Derouin and Randy (Miranda) Derouin all of Escanaba; grandchildren, Drake and Madison Draze, Grant Gholston, Marissa Derouin, Madalyn Mayars, Adelyn Derouin, Jaxon and Delaney Derouin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Gustafson.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 2nd from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River.  The funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. with Rev. Christine Bergquist officiating.  A meal will immediately follow at the Bark River Senior Center.

Casual dress is respectfully requested by the family.

Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Schaffer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bark River United Methodist Church or the Delta County Cancer Alliance.

  1. I will always remember the laughs at Hudson’s. My sincere condolences Dale and family.

  2. Merri was my cousin and her dad grew up with my mother Dorothy east of Carney.. My mom and Uncle George were very close in age and spent many happy days playing on the Crooked creek and watching the cows in the unfenced fields neat their home and mother and dad Carrie and Halvor Gustafson..

  3. I will always remember you as the best grandma you whould always make me laugh when we went camping. I always will also remember the day that u brought me and Adie to go see Santa u started listening to country music and made me and Adie laugh. You were one of my best friends it was really fun going to the oldies with you u would always wear funny gear like wacky hair and sunglasses. One of the last favorite memories was u drinking Arizona sweet tea with Charleston chews. You will be missed grandma we all still love you. Rest In Peace
