Melvin A. Teal, 90, of Bark River, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at his home with his family at his side.

Mel was born August 3, 1927, in Phlox, WI, son of Raymond and Lorraine (Berndt) Teal. His family moved to Bark River in 1939.

He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1945 and served in the Army from January of 1946 through May 1947 when he was honorably discharged as a Tech Sargent during WW II.

On June 5, 1948, Melvin married Corrine Waeghe at St. Joseph’s Church in Escanaba.

He worked at the family business, Teal Evergreens, a wholesale florist supplier, in Bark River, MI with his brother Wayne Teal since 1970. Mel also operated Christmas tree farms starting in 1950 as a hobby. He retired September 30, 1997.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, the Bark River Lions Club for 5 years and a member of Bark River American Legion for 39 years. He also was a member of the Michigan Christmas Tree Association for 50 years.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Corrine; children, Richard (Kathy) Teal of Bark River, Robert (Vickie) Teal of Green Bay, Wi, Patti Ann (Raymond) Paquin of Iron Mountain, Joseph (Julie) Teal of Bark River; brother, Wayne Teal of Bark River and sister-in-law Betty Young of Gladstone; grandchildren, Chris Teal, Kevin (Heather) Teal, Andrew Teal, Jay (Kari) Teal, Karl Kuhr, Eric (Kenzi) Paquin, Stacy (Jason) Greenamyer, and Greg (Breanne) Paquin; great grandchildren, Tyler (Amy), Brandon, Alexis, Tyler, Hailey, Connor, Trenton, Marley, Kenna, Harper, Bohden, Adalynn, Brixton, Kennedy; great-great grandchild, Skylar and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Fred; son, Dale; brothers-in-law, Larry Vanlerberghe and Bob Young, sisters-in-law, Geraldine Vanlerberghe and Bonnie Teal.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 2-5:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. The Bark River Legion will have military rites at 4 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 6:00 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church with Rev. Darryl Pepin officiating.

Burial will take place in Bark River Twp. Cemetery.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Teal family.
