Matthew G. “Matt” Snyder, 76, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 28, 2019 at Sun Rise Hospital in Las Vegas, NV.

He was born on June 3, 1941 in Escanaba, son of George and Geraldine (Burh) Snyder.  Matt graduated from Holy Name High School and then attended Northern Michigan University.  He was a lifelong resident of Escanaba.

Matt honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1964 until 1969.

On May 21, 1966, Matt married the former Judde Kutches at St. Thomas Church in Escanaba.

Matt worked for Mead Paper Company until his retirement.

He loved golfing and taking care of his yard.  He enjoyed reading and following sports, especially the Green Bay Packers.  Matt and Judde enjoyed wintering in Lake Havasu, AZ with their friends.

Matt was a proud member of the Amvets, American Legion, Disable American Veterans and VFW.  He was a member of the Delta County Veterans Council Honor Guard.  He also was involved with the Elks Lodge 354, Eagles Club and the Escanaba Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Judde of Escanaba; sister, Martha (Richard) Ambrosino; brother in law, Peter (Barbara) Kutches; and sister in law, Ruby (Ronald) Carroll; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Matt was preceded in death by his parents. George and Geraldine.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 3rd from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba.  The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at St. Thomas Church with Rev. John Shiverski and Rev. Rick Courier concelebrating.

Committal service and military rites will take place on Saturday, May 4th at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

  1. I was so shocked and saddened when I heard this. May the Peace of God be with you at. This time.

  2. Matt was a very kind, generous man with a warm heart and a great smile. He always welcomed his Holy Name classmates of 1960 to his home for the best welcoming parties for all our class reunions held in Escanaba. He was always well informed and loved to discuss the current topics of the day. He will be missed! May he RIP.

  4. Over the various Holy Name reunions Matt was always a welcoming individual who made me feel like I had never left Escanaba. He was a great guy in high school and remained one throughout his life. He will be missed. Rest in peace Matt.

  5. I first became friends with Matt during the training phase for the startup of Mead’s No. 4 Paper Machine in 1982. Matt was part of the original startup crew and was always a ‘stand up’ guy who performed his job with pride and excellence. I enjoyed very much working and talking with him at length. He sure liked golf. Although I hadn’t seen Matt much in the last few years, I remember him well. Rest in peace, Matt.
