Mary O Ryno

Mary O. Ryno, 89, of Escanaba, passed away on Monday morning, April 29, 2019 at Christian Park Health Care Center.

She was born on August 19, 1929 in Escanaba, daughter to Conrad P. and Helen O. (Brotherton) Lemmer.  Mary graduated from St. Joseph High School and Michigan State University.

Following her college graduation, she spent 3 ½ years teaching first and second grade in Arlington, VA.  Arlington County Schools were written up in Reader’s Digest as the best school system in the U.S. While in Virginia, she met Neale Ryno who worked for naval security and they were married in 1955 in Escanaba.

Mary belonged to St. Anne’s choir for many years in Escanaba.  She was active in Players de Noc in musicals during the 1960’s.  She spent several years serving as Vice President for U.P. Health Planning System.

She is survived by her children, Dan (Kathy) Ryno, Lee (Debbie) Ryno, Conrad Ryno, Jeff Ryno and Ann (Marc Roux) Ryno; grandchildren, Adam (Holly) Ryno, Gloria (Matt) Peterson, Andrew and David Ryno; and four great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Neale in January of 2001.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, June 7th at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church with Rev. Eric Olson officiating.  A luncheon will follow in the church hall.  Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery at 2 p.m.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Ryno family.

  1. My deepest sympathies to the Ryno family on the loss of your mom. She and my mom were good friends and I will always remember her as a kind and loving woman who gave the best hugs!
