Mary Ellen Kane, 81, Escanaba, passed away on Sunday morning, January 17, 2016 at her home.
She was born in Osier, MI on November 28, 1934, daughter of the late John and Ella (Cooper) Laundre.
Mary Ellen attended St. Anne’s Grade School and graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1952.
On January 29, 1955, she married Kenneth Kane at St. Anne’s Church. He preceded her in death in 1962.
She was employed as a bar tender and waitress at The Sherman for many years.
Mary Ellen was a member of St. Anne’s Church where she taught CCD and also worked in the church office. She volunteered at St. Thomas Bingo and at Roundy’s Hall.
She was a foster grandparent for 13 years and enjoyed reading, playing bingo, and watching Packer football.
Mary Ellen is survived by four sons, Michael (Sabrina), John, Jim, and Scott, all of Escanaba; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; son, Thomas on December 20, 2015; sisters, Evelyn Deneau, Vera Pineau, and Gen Mosier; and brother, John Laundre.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at St. Anne’s Church from 10 until 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at church with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.
Burial will be in Bark River Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Foster Grandparents Program. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
