Major (Retired USAF) Mark M. Buckman, age 87, died on April 26, 2019.
Mark was born on September 22, 1931 in Gladstone, MI, to Albert Edward Buckman (d) and Julia Ingabord (Erickson) Buckman (d),
Mark met the love of his life, Marilyn (Coulter) Buckman at the Gladstone Golf Course and were married on November 2, 1957 in East Lansing, MI.
Mark received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Michigan State College (now known as Michigan State University) and his master’s degree in education from the University of Michigan.
Mark and Marilyn traveled and lived in several places while enjoying Marks’ careers as a teacher and then as a Major in the Air Force, until finally retiring in their hometown of Gladstone in 1981.
While in the Air Force he received several awards including the Bronze Star and the Joint Service Commendation Medal.
Mark was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn in 2017 and his brothers, Harlan and Richard Buckman.
Mark is survived by his daughters, Chris Buckman (CO), Kim Buckman (MI) and Cindi Galbraith (OR); eight grandchildren, Lindsay and Mitchell Johnson of Escanaba and Dohnele (Jonas) Parker, Joshua (Hannah), Joseph, April, Benjamin and Juleah Galbraith; as well as three great grandchildren, Emma, Zoe and Zephyr Parker; a niece, Julie (Buckman) Leavitt (Fred); and two nephews, Bruce Buckman (Jan) and Eric Buckman (Kathy); and special cousin, Candy Blaha,
Marks greatest pleasures in his life was being with his family and traveling.
Throughout his life, Mark enjoyed many activities and especially enjoyed golf.
We will miss his beautiful blue eyes, silver hair and his heart of gold.
A celebration of his life will be held this summer.
The family would like to especially thank Kathy and Eric Buckman for helping us be able to keep daddy at home and our special neighbor family, Laurel and Chris Hopper and Mary and Gary Whitmer.
