LaVona M. Motto, 89, Escanaba, formerly of Wilson, passed away on June 29, 2015, at Bishop Noa Home.

She was born in Iron Mountain on April 24, 1926, the daughter of Wilbert and Alda (Juneau) Nault.

LaVona was raised in Wilson and graduated from Harris High School.

On February 15, 1947, LaVona married Edward Motto at St. Francis Xavier Church in Spalding.
LaVona was an expert sewer and loved golfing, watching her beloved Packers, and proudly attended the Ice Bowl game in 1967. She was a longtime supporter of the Bark River-Harris Broncos.

She was a former member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church where she sang in the choir and was most recently a member of St. Anne’s Church. She was also a member of the Highland Golf Course, MARPS, American Legion Auxiliary, and the YMCA water aerobics.
LaVona retired in 1984 as the librarian of Bark River- Harris Schools.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathie (Earl) Paque of Shawano, WI and Carol (Mike) Beck of Bark River; sons, Douglas (Sandy) Motto of Escanaba and Dennis (Doreen) Motto of Wilson; sisters, Darleen (Tony) Otradovec of Wilson and Marianne Skrobiac of Milwaukee; brother, Dale Nault of Milwaukee; seven grandchildren, Tom (Wendy) Mileski, Nikki Beck, Stephanie (Matt) Beck, Amy (Eddie) Zawada, Megan (David) Ashby, Lindsey (James) Reynolds, and Kelsey Motto; nine great grandchildren, Brittany, Bryan, Katelyn and Shannon Mileski, Leo, Ruby and Daisy Zawada, Reese Ashby, and Annabelle Reynolds; and numerous nieces and nephews.

LaVona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; and brother, Elsworth Nault.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2015, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. Bark River Legion Auxiliary will hold services at 3 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

Entombment will be in Gardens of Rest Mausoleum.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Motto family.

  1. So sorry to the family of “Mrs. Motto” as I always knew her. She was a great librarian for all my school years. I hope you all find comfort in knowing she is with the Lord.
