Karen V. Dubrock, 76, of Bark River, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility.

She was born on November 20, 1943 in Escanaba, MI, daughter of Vernon and Edna (Witte) Dubrock. Karen was raised in Schaffer and graduated from Bark River High School in 1962. She went on to receive her Masters Degree in Education from Northern Michigan University.

Early in her career Karen worked for the Sault Ste. Marie schools where she taught grades 1st through 3rd.  She later went on to teach at the Rudyard School District where she taught 1st through 3rd grades. Karen retired from Rudyard at the age of 56. She moved back to Schaffer following her retirement from teaching.

Karen enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and knitting. She collected cook books and recipes in her spare time. Karen also enjoyed being a foster mother for many years. She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Retired School Teachers Association.

Survivors include her sister, Carol (Fred) Gagne of Schaffer; and brother, Allen (Patty) Dubrock of Bark River; four nieces, Veronica (Scott) Wallace, Michelle (Kevin) Miron, Kim (Todd) Zawacki, Deanna (Nick) Sturdy; one nephew, Todd Gagne; one great nephew, Kadin Mustafa who she helped raise; and many other great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, John Miron.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 24th, 2020 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Terry Frankenstein officiating. Service will follow at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be in West Ford River Cemetery.

  3. We were saddened to learn Karen was called to her eternal rest. We also worked for the Rudyard School District. Several times Karen rode with us to Escanaba when we were on Christmas break. We will treasure the “ fun” visits we had together while traveling. Our sincere sympathy.

  4. I enjoyed knowing Karen,when she taught at Rudyard Elementary.I was her hairdresser for years.I so enjoyed our chats and laughs over the years.Rest in peace my friend ❤️

  5. I taught school many years with Karen in the Rudyard school system. I retired 3 years before Karen and then my husband and I moved to Springfield, Missouri. I was sorry to hear about her passing. My sympathy to all the family. She would talk about you and dearly loved all of you.
