Karen A. Huckstep

Karen A. (Kell) Huckstep, 67, of Escanaba, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at her home.

She was born in Escanaba on August 21, 1949, the daughter of Roger and Lois (Veeser) Kell. Karen graduated from Holy Name High School in 1967. She later attended Milwaukee Area Technical College when she earned an associate degree.

Karen worked as a dental hygienist for Milwaukee Dental Associates. In 1994, she began work as a dental hygienist for Dr. Don Nyquist where she retired in 2015.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bay Area Art Association and the Bonifas Art Center. She enjoyed various mediums of art work, gardening and loved her pets.

On, July 10, 1992, Karen married David Huckstep in Escanaba.

Karen is survived by husband, David “Dave” Huckstep of Escanaba, MI; parents, Roger and Lois Kell of Wells, MI; step-children, Jenni (Craig) Kroeger of Sarosota, FL, Lisa (Mike) Rupert of Miami, FL, Danielle (Eric) Hilt of Oshkosh, WI, David (Sarah) Huckstep of Grand Rapids, MI; 10 step grandchildren; siblings, Steve (Ann) Kell of Cape Coral, FL, Mike (Deb) Kell of Iron River, MI and Mary Demerse (Rick Kenyon) of Escanaba, MI.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 2nd, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Services will follow at Crawford Funeral Home at 4 p.m. officiated by Rev. Dr. Judy Kincaid. A luncheon will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Huckstep family.

  1. Dave, I am so sorry to hear of Karen’s passing. I only met her twice but she was so nice to talk with at those times. I know words do very little to ease the pain of your loss but please know that Deb and I will keep Karen in our thoughts and prayers.

  2. My condolences to the Kell and Huckstep families. Karen and I played together as girls at her Butler grandparents’ home in Gladstone in the late ’50s. I’m saddened to see the news of her passing.

  4. So so sorry to hear of Karen’s passing, I was a fellow graduate of Karen’s and now live in DePere Wisconsin., so this news came as quite a shock to me! I extend my deepest sympathy to both the Kell and Huckstep families, let all your loving memories together with Karen be in your hearts always to help comfort you all. She was a wonderful loving/caring lady who has touched many a heart with kindness and caring, heaven has gained another angel………….God’s love/compassion be with you all !!🙏❤️

  5. I am deeply sorry to hear Karen has passed away! We will ALL miss her a great deal! As the youngest cousin on the Veeser side (31 of us)I did not get to know Karen well until the past 10 plus years.I am so Blessed to have the opportunity to get to know my Cousin.I am so grateful our summer reunions! Karen, I will miss you, may you rest in peace, grow your wings & watch over us!
