John P. Daigneault

John P. Daigneault, 89, passed away on Friday evening, December 30, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Hospital.

He was born on February 19, 1929 in Schaffer, MI, son of Emanuel L. and Leola M. (Patton) Daigneault. John attended Schaffer School and graduated from Escanaba Senior High School in 1947.

On September 29, 1951, John married Phyllis F. Scheer at St. Joseph Church in Escanaba. She preceded him in death on October 10, 2004.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. John received a Victory Medal and an Army of Occupation Medal – Germany.

John worked for almost 40 years for the railroad, employed for Chicago & Northwestern Railroad.

He enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, traveling, going to camp and spending time doing anything outside. John enjoyed woodworking and was a good carpenter and especially enjoyed the project of remodeling his own home.

John was a member of St. Thomas Church and was a life member of VFW Post 2889.

Among survivors include his children, Mary Jean (Thomas) Krassick of Bark River, Cathleen Bourdeau, Paul Daigneault, Patricia (Allen) Tryan and all of Escanaba and Susan (Kim) Oliver of Wells; son in law, Patrick Writt; grandchildren, Dennis (Tracy) and Duane (Kristen) Bourdeau, Dayna (Lindsey) Nelson, Deanna Bourdeau, Andrew (Kimberley) Tryan, Amber (Josh) Marenger, Kevin and Kristina Oliver, Melissa (Aaron) Dubord, Shawn, Jeffery, and Dan Writt; and many great grandchildren; sister, Lois (Oneil) King of Ford River; three brothers, James (Eileen) of Hyde, David of Hazel Park, MI and Robert of Chandler, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Brian John; daughter, Judy Writt; grandson, Anthony; brothers Eugene and Isadore; and sisters, Rita King, Mercedes Peterson and Cecile Patrick.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 4th from 2 to 4:30 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military services will take place at 4 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at St. Thomas Church with Rev. Rick Courier officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.

Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Schaffer.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Daigneault family.
