John J. Benson, 37, Escanaba, passed away on July 22, 2014 from natural causes.

He was born in Racine, WI, on January 29, 1977, the son of John C. and Barbara M. (Gregory) Benson. John moved to Escanaba when he was one year old.

John attended Bark River-Harris Schools and was a member of the football team.

John was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish, hunt, and snowmobile. He also enjoyed playing the guitar.

He is survived by his lifetime significant other, Sheila Mogren of Escanaba; parents, John (Gerilyn)Benson and Barbara (Floyd) Benson of Escanaba; daughter, Kayla Mogren of Escanaba; son, Brett J. Benson of Escanaba; sister, Jamie (Dale) Benson of Escanaba; stepbrother, Jacob (Jessica) Peterson of Racine, WI; special nieces, Julianna and Jadalyn Peterson; special nephews, Gage Hoerning and Jordan Benson; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the family.

  1. My heart and my prayers go out to you all. I was in total shock when I heard my friend Johnny B. was gone. Johnnny was a great man and a great friend. Johnny was so proud of his children no matter how big you guys got you were always his babies,the smile on his face and the joy in his eyes said a million words when talking about his children. Saying good-bye is always hard so were going to say see you later I’ll see you on the other side Johnny B. fly high my good friend!
