Jean M. Waeghe, 88, of Escanaba, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2015 at Christian Park Village with her loving family by her side.
The former Jean Doutre was born in Escanaba on September 20, 1926, the daughter of Anthony and Irene (Derouin) Doutre.
Jean graduated from Escanaba High School in 1944.
On July 23, 1947 she married the love of her life, Raymond Waeghe, who preceded her in death in 2004.
While raising her family, Jean also worked as a check-out for many years at the A&P Store in downtown Escanaba, until its closing. She was a warm, loving and generous mother and grandmother. Jean loved camping, snowmobiling, and traveling with friends, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Most of all she loved to spend time with Ray at their camp in Stonington. She was a member of St. Thomas Church.
Survivors include her four children, Allan (Pat) Waeghe of Gladstone, Barbara (Jim) West of Howard, WI, Janet (Gary) Johnson of Gladstone, and Wayne (Tracy) Waeghe of Garden, MI; 12 grandchildren, Robert (Amy) Grignon of Grand Ledge, MI, Lisa Thone of Amasa, MI, Leslie (Rich) Goodrich of Green Bay, WI, Ryan (Franny) Thone of Green Bay, WI, Jamison (Steph) West of North Carolina, Carolyn (Glen) Taylor of Escanaba, Nadine Waeghe of Millbrae, CA, Shane (Charlene) Waeghe of Richfield, WI, Todd (Julie) Johnson of Bath, MI, Jessie Johnson of Millbrae, CA, Tim (Dina) Waeghe of New York City, NY, and Jill (Jeff) Pascoe of Escanaba and 21 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond, brother Alton Doutre, sister-in-law Mary Ann Doutre, brother-in-law Charles Waeghe, son-in-law Roger Thone, and mother-in-law Fannie Waeghe.
Jean’s family will receive friends on Friday, June 26th from 4 to 6pm at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services will follow at 6pm with Father Rick Courier officiating. A luncheon will be served in the funeral home dining area following services.
Memorials may be directed in Jean’s name to St. Thomas Church in Escanaba and Memorial United Methodist Church in Gladstone. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
