James M. “Murph” Murphy, 71, 1600 S. 30th St., Lot 160, Escanaba, passed away on June 27, 2015 at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born on November 20, 1943 in Dorchester, MA, son of John and Bridget (Slattery) Murphy. Murph was raised in the Boston area and graduated from Don Basco High School in 1961.
James served in the Air Force for four years.
On July 17, 1965, James Murphy married Therese Derusha at St. Joseph Church in Escanaba.
He worked for Cooper Office for many years as a salesman.
Murph enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family. He was a life member of the Amvets and was a member of St. Joseph and St. Patrick’s Church.
Among survivors include his wife, Therese of Escanaba; son, James (Leah) of Escanaba; daughters, Bridie Alwood of Bark River, Kris (Wayne) Bury of Baltimore and Connie (Daniel) Evans of Oshkosh; 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathy; two brothers, John and Peter; and a sister, Pat Nugent.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military Rites will be conducted at 3 p.m. by the Delta County Veterans Council. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church with Rev. Eric Olson officiating.
