James F. Hubert Sr.

James F. “Jim” Hubert, Sr., 65, 5130 J. 31st Rd. Escanaba, passed away on Sunday evening, March 13, 2016 at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born on July 1, 1950 in Escanaba, son of Wallace and Stella (Decair) Hubert. Jim graduated from Escanaba High School and was a lifelong resident of this area.

Jim worked maintenance for the Escanaba School System, first at the Escanaba High School and then for the bus garage until his retirement in January of 2005.

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, canning, woodworking and watching NASCAR. He loved having his friends and family over and having bon fires.

Jim is survived by his significant other, Nancy Wellman of Escanaba; children, Becky Curtin of Grand Blanc, Jim (Cindy Hornick) Hubert Jr. of Bark River, Nicole (Dan Bishop) Hubert of Erie, PA; five grandchildren, Alex and Tim Curtin, Andrea Hubert, Daniel Bishop Jr., and Ashlee Hubert; great grandson, Kaine Kinsey; his siblings, Patricia (Bob) Hermans of Escanaba, Richard (Donna) Hubert of Escanaba, Sandy Peterson of Escanaba, Judy (Mike) Levesque; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas Hubert; and sister, Joan Seppanen.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 17th from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba.

Burial will take place in South Ford River Cemetery.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Hubert family.

  1. Dear Nancy and Jim’s family, My sympathy to you all at this sad time. Jim worked at the high school while I taught there. He was always so helpful and pleasant. We are out of town so I can’t pay my respects in person, but know you are in my thoughts.
