Jacqueline J. DeMars

Resided in Escanaba, MI
Died March 22nd, 2015

Jacqueline J. “Jackie” DeMars, 86, Escanaba, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility.

She was born in Escanaba on November 17, 1928, daughter of the late Henry and Lyllia (Caushulette) Desmond.

Jackie graduated from Escanaba High School in 1949.

She worked as a bookkeeper at Delta Hardware after graduating high school. In 1950, Jackie married Frank DeMars at St. Joseph Church. She continued doing bookkeeping work at DeGrand Oil Company until she started her family.

Over the next 20 years she lovingly cared for her six children “working” as a homemaker and mother. In 1980, after her family was grown and mostly on their own, she obtained a license to operate a daycare in her home. She continued to do what she did best; love and care for little children. Many adults today in the Escanaba area know “Grandma Jackie” as a person that played a big part in their early life. She continued to care for little ones until her retirement in 2010, at the age of 81.
Jackie also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, baking, and cooking.

She is survived by daughter, Nancy LaPalm of Escanaba; sons, Alan (Karen) DeMars of Kalamazoo, MI, Joe (Sandy) DeMars of Wells, Tim (Sandra) DeMars of Norway, Paul (Kerri) DeMars of Tuscon, AZ; sister, Geneviere Mortier of Norway; brother, William Desmond of Bullhead City, NV; 11 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jackie was preceded in death by her son, Tom DeMars; sisters, Anamae Carlson, Peg Goulekee, Carol Dougherty; and brothers, Merril Desmond and Donald Francis Desmond.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Holy Cross Cemetery.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the DeMars family.
