Irene Ruth “Ike” Milkovich, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, April 3 , 2015 at St. Francis Hospital.
She was born on July 18, 1920 in Escanaba, daughter to Wilfred and Exina (Belland) LeDuc. She was a lifelong resident of Escanaba.
She worked as a secretary for Central West Distributors until her retirement.
Irene was married to the late Noel Savard in 1942, who perished in World War II as an Army Sergeant on March 17, 1945. She later married John (Abe) Mlikovich in 1951 at St. Anne’s Church. He preceded her in death in 1987.
She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Gerald (Jerry) Savard; her parents, Exina and Wilfred LeDuc; her sisters, Leona McArthy, Marguerite “Muggs” Beauchamp, Eleanor “Nan” Reeves and Delphine “Del” Javurek; and brother, Robert “Bud” LeDuc. She is survived by her grandchildren, Beth (Brian) Farmer, Mark (Stacey) Savard and Marissa (Michael) Hearn; great grandchildren, Samantha, Alex and Ian Farmer and Tyler Savard who brought a sparkle to her eye and much joy; sister in law, Anna Mae LeDuc; and many nieces and nephews.
Irene was an avid golfer who participated in numerous golf competitions throughout her life, including the U.P. Ladies Golf Tournament, where she made lifelong friends throughout the Upper Peninsula. She was a life time member of the Highland Golf Club. She was also a past member of the Escanaba Elks Club, Eagles Club and was a lifetime member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church.
Irene was blessed with many friends and family throughout her life but especially those who lovingly cared for her in the last several years until her death including niece, Barbara Bartley; great niece, Diane Bartley, great great niece, Kasey Fish, and special friend, Helen Dufresne.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 7th from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating.
Entombment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the Delta County Cancer Alliance or St. Anne’s Church.
