Irene E. Broeders, 79, 1782 H Road, Bark River, passed away on Friday morning, June 13, 2014 at OSF St. Francis Hospital.
She was born on April 11, 1935 in Escanaba, daughter of Joseph and Kundie (Shirverski) Kwak. Irene was raised in Perronville/LaBranche area and attended school in Perronville and Bark River High School.
On August 8, 1953, the former Irene Kwak married Ernest R. Broeders at St. Michael’s Church in Perronville.
Irene enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, gardening, working in the saw mill, camping and cutting wood.
She was Catholic by faith.
Among survivors include her husband, Ernest of Bark River; children, Henry (Cathy) Broeders of Bark River, Carol Belongia of Spokane, WA, David (Karen) Broeders of Bark River, Donna (Rayne) Motto of Wilson and Karen (Edward) Greenfield of Bark River; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister in law, Shirley Kwak of Perronville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ted Kwak; and sister, Pat Kwak.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 18th from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Eric Olson officiating. A meal will follow in the funeral home dining area.
