Irene B. Slawinski

Irene B. Slawinski, 95, 5329 Portage Point Lane, Escanaba, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital.

She was born on March 20, 1918, the daughter of Frank and Anne (Markiewicz) Ciszewski, in Milwaukee. She lived in the Menominee and Wallace areas for many years before moving to Escanaba three years ago to live with her daughter Ruth. She was an avid gardener.

She was employed at Fish Net and Twine Industries, Inc. for 30 plus years.

Irene married Thomas E. Banaszynski in 1937 and he preceded her in death on November 7, 1956. In 1970 she married Edward J. Slawinski and he preceded her in death on October 6, 1986.

She was a member of Resurrection Parish in Menominee. While in Escanaba she attended St. Anne’s Church.

Irene is survived by her son Al (Glenda) Banaszynski of Green Bay, daughter, Ruth Gustafson of Escanaba, nine grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a grandson, James Gustafson.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at St. Anne’s Church from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne’s Church at noon with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Mission Cemetery in Sobieski, MI.

A luncheon will follow the Mass.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the family.
