Helen Mary Lesica, 86, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday, March 29, 2016.

Helen was born on May 13, 1929, in Newberry, MI, to Louis and Ann Beaudin. She graduated from Newberry High School and continued her education becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was employed as an LPN at the Newberry State Hospital, and as the director of the Candy Stripe program at OSF St. Francis Hospital. She was also a lifetime member of the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary.

Helen married Francis R. Lesica and together they lived in Newberry, Ishpeming, and Escanaba. In her younger years, she enjoyed knitting. She made a beautiful Green Bay Packer sweater/jacket for her husband, even though she was a Detroit Lions fan. She also enjoyed reading and cooking and loved baking cookies with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two children, Michael (Julie) Lesica of Eloy, Arizona, and Kathy (Chick) Gardner of Escanaba, and two grandchildren, Katrina (Katie) Gardner (fiancé Dylan Schlenvogt) of Holland, MI, and Matthew Gardner of Escanaba. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She also had a special friend and care giver, Rose; special friend, Nancy; and nieces, Rita, Ellen, and Michelle; and nephew, Louie.

She was preceded in death by her husband on June 12, 2010; her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Donna Beaudin; sister, Patricia Demarest; and nephew, Louis Beaudin III.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, April 4, 2016, at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Fran DeGroot officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

Entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Catherine and all of the staff at North Woods Place assisted living.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Joseph & St. Patrick organ fund.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Lesica family.

Altho, I moved from Escanaba, we kept our friendship alive by telephone.I will always remember our days together. I will sorely miss her and our gossiping. She was very special to me.   5. I just received a text from Cousin Patrice Pemble. I am so sorry for the loss of your mom and grandma. I remember staying with her many times when mom would bring us to Newberry to aee all the relatives. RIP Helen and say Hi to mom and dad.
