Helen M. Weissert, 93, passed away early Friday morning, April 15, 2016 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 27, 1922 in Spalding, MI, daughter of Alex P. and Emma M. (Gunville) Bouty. Helen graduated from Powers-Spalding High School in 1940.
On November 14, 1942, Helen married Earl Weissert in San Diego, CA. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1982. She married Willard Ledger on May 29, 1993 in Iron Mountain and he preceded her in death on January 2, 2000.
During WWII she moved to San Diego and was the head inspector at Shruld Parachute Factory.
For 25 years Helen worked as a stenographer at Pine Timber Lumber Company and also was the clerk at the Spalding Postal Office until her retirement on May 31, 1989.
Helen was a member of St. John Neumann Church in Spalding. She was involved in the St. Anne Altar Society where she was President. Helen also was township deputy clerk of Spalding Township and was chaplain of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 244.
She loved going to camp and to the cottage on the lake and playing cards.
She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Steve) Milligan of Vulcan, MI, Bill (Vickie) Weissert of Escanaba, Robert Weissert of Escanaba and Peggy (Scott) Klapper of Saline, MI; 13 grandchildren, Rachelle, Nicholle, Stephanie, Rob, Will, Kristi, Craig, Erin, Chad, Jeff, Justin, Kim, and Kevin; and 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Ed Bouty; and two sisters, Evelyn Cory and Betty Sommers.
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 23rd from 9 to 11 a.m. (Central Time) at St. John Neumann Church in Spalding. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mike Vichich officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.
Burial will be in Spalding Twp. Cemetery.
