Glen Nicholas White, 55, 4203 US Highway 2 & 41, Escanaba, passed away on Friday evening, July 24, 2015, as a result of a vehicle accident in Escanaba.

He was born in Marquette on April 8, 1960, son of Philip and Barbara (DePetro) White.

Glen graduated from Marquette High School in 1978 and obtained an Associate Degree in Business from Davenport College.

Glen returned to the Upper Peninsula in 1984 where he opened White’s Grocery in Escanaba. Glen was a very active member of the community; coaching boys’ basketball at Holy Name school for over 10 years. He was an active member of St. Ann’s parish, loyal supporter and participant of the Patriot Guard Riders, Harley Owners’ Group (HOG), Knights of Columbus, Elks BPOE #3504, Wells Lions Club, Delta Chamber of Commerce, and regular guest on the WUPF Eagle 107.3 morning talk show. He conducted and contributed to many charitable events.

Glen’s friends and community meant the world to him and he always had a smile for everyone who came into the store. He was a faithful man who loved his family, his community, the Green Bay Packers, and his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

He is survived by two beloved sons, Kurt White of Marquette and Eric White of Escanaba; parents, Philip and Barbara White of Marquette; brothers, Steve (Pamela) White of Boca Raton, FL and Scott (Jill) White of Marquette; sister, Laurie (Brian) Tuck of Traverse City; special friend, June Kirschner of Escanaba; mother of his children, Gayle Perreault; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Knights of Columbus Rosary will be said at 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Patriot Guard Riders, Escanaba Knights of Columbus, or Well Lions Club. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the White family.

  3. I met Glen at the Tuesday night bike ride out of Mr. Bike and Ski. Glen went pretty good on a bicycle and will be missed. As of late he was more motorcycle than bicycle but will always be part of our group ride.

  16. I knew Glen through my brother Mark Ostlund. Glen was a loyal friend to him over the years. I always enjoyed my talks with him about the Packers, our families, politics, and our Christian Faith. He was so upbeat and humorous and he had that caring side that made him extra special. The last time I saw him he was riding on that Harley that he loved. The family has a lot to be proud of in his memory.   27. Glen coached my son in basketball at Holy Name. He would often let me meet him at the store and give me son rides so I wouldn’t have to drive all the way into town in the snow. Thank you, Glen. You were so generous in our community. You are irreplaceable. I’m so sorry you had to go.

  28. Dorell and I have fond memories of our many outings with Glen and June. Glen was a great supporter of area sports including Powers NC basketball. Glen showed up plowing us out several times when we first got snowed in after moving in the winter of 2013. He was always looking to help others and will be greatly missed.
