George W. DeLoughary, 94, of Escanaba, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 4, 2017 at Christian Park Healthcare Center with his loving family by his side.
George was born in Harris Township on July 1, 1923, son of George and Marie (Gauthier) DeLoughary.
He was raised in Harris and graduated from Harris High School in 1942.
George joined the Army April 26, 1945. He served in Japan until his honorable discharge in 1946.
On May 14, 1955, George married Anne Michaud at St. Anthony’s Church in Wells.
George became a police officer and worked for Escanaba Public Safety and Fire Department from 1951 until 1982. In 1982 he went to work for Delta County Sheriff Department until 1987.
He loved to hunt.
Among survivors are his daughters, Anne Marie DeLoughary of Bark River and Barbara Louise (Matthew) Shepard of Escanaba; grandchildren, James Shepard and Jessica Shepard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anne; sisters, Cecelia Viau, Leona DeLoughary, Dorothy Cavill, and Margaret Gadnis; and brother, Edward DeLoughary.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 10 – 12 noon at St. Anne Church in Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 noon with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the DeLoughary family.
Burial will take place in Bark River Cemetery.
