George H. Tryan

George H. Tryan, 69, of Escanaba, passed away early Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Hospital.

George was born in Escanaba on August 13, 1949, son of Earl and Ruby (Provo) Tryan. He was a life-long resident of Escanaba.

He graduated from Escanaba High School in 1968 and attended Bay College. He was in the Army from 1969-1971, serving in Vietnam.

On June 24, 1972, George married Jacqueline “Jackie” DuPont at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba. Together they celebrated 46 years of marriage and raised their two children.

George worked for Harnischfeger for 15 years then went to work for DeGrand Construction in 1984 until his retirement in 2016.

George truly loved his grandchildren, Emily, Jeffrey and Carly. Building forts with their papa was one of their favorite things to do. He had a green thumb that could make anything grow, loved working in the woods and was a true outdoorsman. George also loved riding his Harley. He was known to be a prankster; spreading rocks that he painted gold for the landscaping at St. Anne’s church, hoping Fr. Fran would find gold.

He was a member of St. Anne’s Parish.

Among survivors include his wife, Jackie of Escanaba; mother, Ruby of Escanaba; children, Marc (Lynn) of Gladstone and Christopher (Lisa) of Escanaba; grandchildren, Emily, Jeffery and Carly; siblings, Richard (Donna) Tryan of Iron River, Judy (Steve) Smith of Yuma, AZ, Sharon (Brian) Stephens of Lake Havasu, AZ, Robert Tryan of Escanaba, Earl (Karen) Tryan of Escanaba and Laura (John) Love of New Port Richie, FL; and nieces, nephews,  aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl; brother, Paul; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and his favorite dachshunds, Fritz, Hanns and Luke.

The visitation will be held at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 South 13th Street, Escanaba on Sunday, December 30, 2018 from 4-6 p.m. The veteran’s service will be at 6 p.m. with parish prayers to follow at 6:15 p.m. with Deacon Mike LeBeau.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 31st at 11 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

Burial will be in the spring.

  4. Aunt Dolly, I am so sorry to hear of Uncle George’s passing. He was a great person and always knew how to make someone laugh.
