Ernest “Tubby” Meshigaud, Sr., 65, Wilson, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at his home.

He was born on June 12, 1951 in Wilson, son of Hubert and Louella (Wandahsega) Meshigaud, Sr. Tubby attended Bark River-Harris School.

Tubby earned an associate’s degree in substance abuse counseling from Wayne State University in 1977.

On March 1, 1975, Ernest married Janice I. Halfaday in Hannahville.

Tubby was a substance abuse counselor prior to his employment at the Island Resort and Casino. He was employed at the casino for 25 years holding various positions from blackjack dealer to pit boss.

He enjoyed watching his two favorite sports teams, the Detroit Tigers and Lions. He was an avid woods man. Most of all, Tubby enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He proudly celebrated his 44th year of sobriety in July.

Among survivors include his wife, Janice; children, Anna (Mark) Larson, Stephanie (Michael) Philemon, Ida (fiancé, Matt Kazmer) Meshigaud, Ernest Meshigaud, Jr. and Harriet (Kevin) McGivern all of Hannahville; grandchildren, James, Justin, Traci (Shannon), John, Josh, Shianne, Candice, Ellianna, Hannah, Laney, Andrew and Matthew (Rachel); 18 great grandchildren; siblings, John (Sue) Meshigaud, Sr., Annie Meshigaud, Robert (Sharon) Meshigaud, Juanita Megenuph, Donald Meshigaud, Ken (Jeanne) Meshigaud, Dan (Lorrie) Meshigaud, and Earl (Aeisha) Meshigaud, Sr. all of Hannahville; special nephew, Robin (Toni) Halfaday and their family, Taren, Taylor, Tamika, Tianna, Talia and Raiden and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Frank Uskilith; and siblings, Alverna Schoen, Mary Lou Meshigaud, Hubert Meshigaud, Jr., Ronald Meshigaud, Sr., and David Meshigaud; and special grandparents, Charlie and Harriet Shedawin.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to OSF Hospice and his special nurse, Rachael Latta.

For his love of sports, “Tubby” requested that you wear your favorite team attire to services. Visitation will begin on Friday, August 26th at 3 p.m. EST at Hannahville Community Center with the funeral service to follow at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Burial will follow in the Hannahville Cemetery.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Meshigaud family.
