Elvira J. Carlson, 86, of Escanaba, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba.

She was born on August 28, 1930 in Florence, WI, daughter of Joseph and Emma (Slater) Neuens.

Elvira was raised in the Flat Rock Area and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1948.

On June 19, 1948, Elvira married Carl Carlson at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1999.

Elvira was employed for Montgomery Wards and Merrick’s until her retirement in 1980.

She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, traveling, and spending time with her family. Elvira loved her home and spending time there.

Elvira was a member of Holy Family Parish.

She is survived by a son, Gary (Jan) Carlson of Escanaba; four daughters, Susan (Tom) Anderson of Sault Ste Marie, MI, Nancy (Frank) Chenier of Gladstone, Joyce (John) Bosbous of Sault Ste Marie, MI and Sally (Mike) Kaminski of Milwaukee, WI; 16 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren; sisters, Ileen (Hank) Hughes and Therese (Earl) Guenette; four brothers, Kenneth (Clara Mae) Neuens, Dennis (Judy) Neuens, Tom (Terri) Neuens and Richard Neuens; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carl, Elvira was preceded in death by granddaughters, Amy Chenier Kositzke and Whitney Anderson; and sisters, Dawn LaPalm and Barb Neuens.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 8th from 2-4 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock with Elvira’s grandson Rev. Mike Chenier officiating and Rev. John Longbucco concelebrating.

A meal will follow in the church hall.
Burial will take place in the Escanaba Twp. Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Family Church Roof Fund.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the family.
