Elva V. Silver, 83, Gladstone, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility.

She was born on August 17, 1931 in Bark River, daughter of Ebrath and Clara (Swanson) Peterson. She graduated from Bark River High School in 1950.

Elva moved to Chicago in 1950, where she met and married her husband, Donald V. Silver, in 1952. She moved back to Escanaba in 1997.

She worked for CNA for over 30 years before retiring in 1989. Elva loved watching Chicago Sports on T.V., as well as game shows. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and the like.

Elva is survived by one daughter, Laurel (Joe) Nickence of Gladstone; one sister, Arlene Thomas of New Hampshire; one brother, Walton (Caunita) of Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; brothers, Stan and Lloyd; and sister, Carol Sandberg.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2015, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 2 p.m. with Pastor Christine Bergquist officiating.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Silver family.

  1. I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember meeting Elva when I first moved to Chicago. She was a good friend. I enjoyed the times she rode along on my trips home so she could visit Lloyd. She will be missed.
