Eleanor J. Thoune

Eleanor J. Thoune, 78, of Escanaba, passed away early Monday morning, April 8, 2019 at Christian Park Healthcare Center.

She was born in Escanaba on September 28, 1940, the daughter of Edward and Lucille (Turski) Bergstrom.

Eleanor was raised in Bark River and graduated from Bark River High School. She resided in Bark River for most of her life before moving to Escanaba in 2003.

On January 24, 1959, Eleanor married Harold Thoune at Salem Lutheran Church in Bark River.

Eleanor loved to knit and crochet. She loved animals, especially cats and dogs. Her most enjoyment was going to her grandchildren’s basketball and football games.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; children, Jeannie (Russell) Berger of Wilson, Edward Harold (Gigi) Thoune of Iron Mountain, Tina Marie (Tom) Sweda of Schaffer, David Arthur (fiancée, Tammie Kroehler) Thoune of Schaffer; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and a great great grandson.

Eleanor was preceded in death by parents; sister, Evelyn Woznick; and granddaughter, Mandy.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 13th beginning at 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4 p.m. (Eastern Time) at the Berean Baptist Church, 4677 18th Rd., Escanaba.  A luncheon will immediately follow at the church.

Burial will take place in Bark River Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
