Edward G. “Ed” Bergeon, 71, Escanaba, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at his home.

He was born in Escanaba on November 10, 1944, son of the late Nels J. and Irene (Viau) Bergeon.

Ed graduated from Escanaba High School and attended classes at Bay de Noc Community College.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from January 4, 1966 until his honorable discharge on January 30, 1968. Ed was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.

He married the former Joyce Zimmerman on November 6, 1971 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Escanaba.

Ed worked at Harnischfeger, Racine Foundry in Racine, WI, Habitat Fence Co. in Gladstone, and the Delft Theater.

He enjoyed dining out, spending time with animals, watching movies, and playing the guitar. Ed loved to spend time people watching and telling jokes. He was always there to lend a helping hand to someone in need.

Ed was a dedicated member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Escanaba.

He is survived by his brothers, Jerry (Betty) Bergeon of Escanaba and Robert (Shan) Bergeon of Two Rivers, WI; sisters, Marilyn (Richard) McKnight of Mims, FL and Gladstone, Laura (Wayne) Gardner-Bernard of Titusville, FL and Gladstone, Helen (Robert) Vidmar of Cadiz, KY, and Cathy LaFleur of Escanaba; sisters in law, Rosemary (Joe) Kososki, Lois Zimmerman, Shari (Jeff) Morgan, Janie (Mark) Mignano, and Chrissy (Tom Wangerin) Jenkins; brothers in law, Art (Lynn) Zimmerman Jr., David (Dawn) Zimmerman, and Mike Cronick; special friend, John; and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce; brothers, Daniel Bergeon, John Bergeon, and Liewelyn Larson; sisters, Loraine St. John and Mary LaFave; sister in law, Lynn Cronick; and father and mother in law, Art and Rose Zimmerman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Escanaba. A meal will follow in the church hall.

Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Bagley, MI.
