Donald Bruce “Joe” Schrader, 76, of Hermansville, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at his home following a battle with stage IV cancer.
He was born in Ann Arbor, MI on May 20, 1943, son of Wilmer and Rachel (Finkey) Schrader. He was raised in Ann Arbor and Sturgis. His friends and family knew him as “Joe”.
At age 17, Joe lied about his age and enlisted in the Army National Guard. He served as a sharp shooter from March of 1960 until his honorable discharge March of 1963.
He married the love of his life Christine (Johnson) on April 26, 1974. They were married 51 years and raised 4 children. He worked his whole life as an over the road truck driver.
Joe loved to fish, playing cards, dice and computer slots. Spending time with his family was what he loved most and making his famous BBQ ribs.
Joe was always generous and always helped others. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Among survivors include his wife, Christine; children, Kenneth Schrader and Julie (Tom) Gagnon; grandchildren, Sabrina (Ryan) Herman, Dakota (Joe) Macomber, Stephanie (Keenan) Stiefel, Tracy (Bruce) Rapp, Tom Gagnon, Ken, Vincent, Jasmine and Tim Schrader and Marty Thorban; many great grandchildren; and brother, Ron (Sharon) Schrader.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Wendy Marie Beauchamp.
Burial will take place in Sacred Heart cemetery in Schaffer. The family will have a graveside service to be announced with full military honors.
