Derek William Koelbl, 37 of Bark River, passed on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at home due to many illnesses.

He was born on June 7, 1980 in Escanaba to the late James Koelbl and Gloria (Dixon) Koelbl.

Besides his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Patrick Koelbl of Ford River and Clinton Koelbl of Bark River. He also leaves many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Derek was a good mechanic and could fix almost anything. He had a love for animals and also enjoyed baking when he felt well enough.

A private graveside service will be held in the near future at the Quinnesec Cemetery.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Koelbl family.

  1. Derek was an junior high student of mine. He was always smiling, and he had a witty sense of humor. I really enjoyed having him as a student. I’m sorry to find out he had illnesses. He’ll be missed. My deepest sympathy and my prayers to his mother and brothers. God bless you all.

  2. I knew Derek because we grew up together when I went to BRH school. I remember Derek always being so kind to me despite others who picked on me throughout my time there. He had a great sense of humor as well and always could make me laugh or smile when others weren’t so nice. My heart and my thoughts sinceremy go out to all of you in this time of sorrow.
